Abstract
The role of the Irish Citizen Army (ICA)in the 1916 Rising tends to be overlooked,or is portrayed as an auxiliary movementthat played a minor role during the Rising.The ICA was a revolutionary army thatgrew out of the trade union movement duringthe Lockout in 1913.
